Frontier Explorer: What's Included
All 3-star lodging. Our hotels are based on shared twin rooms but we do have an upgrade option to a single room if available. You can select this option during check out.
One day of CAT Skiing. Yes, fulfill your CAT fantasy as we hire out a CAT and ski down an abandoned ski hill (one of many in this region!). CAT skiing in Japan is different from North America--check out what to expect here.
Daily dinner reservations at restaurants that serve different types of Japanese cuisine (participation optional but highly recommended!). These restaurants have been personally selected for their authenticity and deliciousness and include cuisine such as Sushi, Yakiniku, Yakitori, Ramen, Soba, etc. More on food here.
All lift tickets at 6 different ski resorts
Find the best pow with guided off-piste tours for advanced riders with avalanche safety gear. Guided resort orientation minimizes the learning curve and maximizes off-groomer pow time.
Welcome dinner on the second night with a traditional Iwate-style food eating competition! (optional but highly recommended!)
Big daily breakfast buffet with western style options available at both hotels
All transportation beginning at Morioka Station and ending at Aomori. You'll need to either: 1) arrange your own transportation to Morioka or 2) buy the JR East Tohoku Pass and we'll meet you in Tokyo! More information in our Logistics section. Why isn't the pass included?
Native English speaking guide drives, informs, and translates as needed
If you don't have your own avalanche safety set, we'll have one available to you for no extra cost. The set includes a backpack, beacon, probe, and shovel. Note that the backpack may not necessarily be compatible with snowboard/skis if you want to go for a hike with planks attached.
Snow Shoes are also available for use at no additional cost if guests don't have their own touring gear (this is for the last 2 days in Hakkoda)
Two days of guided backcountry in the Hakkoda mountains. Instead of the usual off-piste, we'll be getting a local Japanese guide to take us to some special spots in the backcountry.
Over the course of 6 ski days, we'll be spending 3 days hitting up some local Onsen Hot Springs. This cost is also covered by us.
International flights to/from Tokyo's Narita Airport (NRT)
Any rentals of ski, snowboard gear.
Lunch, dinner, drinks and snacks are at your own discretion for this trip. How much should you plan on spending? See the chart on our Logistics page for an estimate.
Transportation to Morioka Station at the beginning of the trip and transportation from Aomori Station at the end. You'll need to either: 1) arrange your own transportation to Morioka or 2) buy the JR East Pass Tohoku and we'll meet you in Tokyo! More information at our Logistics section.
