Itinerary

Storm Chaser Itinerary

Day 1: Arriving Logistics, Meet & Greet

There are two options to meet the group:

Option 1: Meet at the Asahikawa AKJ airport at 2:45pm at the 1st floor arrivals area by entrance 3 or
Option 2: Meet in the lobby of the La Vista Furano Hotel, at 6:15pm ready to go to dinner. La Vista Hotel can be accessed on your own or by the Resort Liner Bus with service from CTS airport to Furano.

Note: if you're renting skis/boards and meeting at La Vista at 6:15; you're responsible for sorting out your own rental skis before the meeting time! If you're getting picked up at AKJ airport, we'll drop you off at the ski rental shop in Furano.

More information on how to get to the meeting points can be found on our Logistics page.

Regardless of your transportation method, we'll settle into our hotel on the evening of day one and do a welcome dinner together. Our hotel is centrally located and within walking distance to all the amenities that the rural town of Furano has to offer. Our hotel features western style rooms in a sleek environment and open air hot springs on the roof, with views of the surrounding mountains. Further information on our lodging can be found here.

Day 2-3: Storm Chase Furano and surrounding areas for 3 ski days

Days 2-3 are spent skiing the best possible resorts on any given day including Furano, Tomamu, Sahoro, Asahidake (if conditions permit), and Kamui Ski Links. The exact date we ski any one of these resorts depends on conditions and will be determined based on the upcoming forecasts. Aside from when we ski at Furano ski resort located 10 min away, the other resorts are a bit far; with an average drive time of 60-80 minutes one-way. Come prepared with your favorite ski playlists!

We have dinner reservations each night within walking distance of the hotel. The restaurants are selected for authenticity, deliciousness, and meeting a variety of price points. You can see full details on the food choices here.

Day 4: Storm Chase Furano Area/Transfer to Otaru

After our third ski day in the Furano area, we transfer bases to southern Hokkaido, saying farewell to our Furano based guides. The drive to Otaru can take 3 - 4 hours depending on road conditions, so we always plan on departing Furano by around 2pm. Transported by our friends from Social Bus, we land in the quaint port-side town of Otaru and are greeted by our guides specializing in this region.

Mostly undiscovered by ski-travellers, Otaru provides lots of interesting ski options as well as some top quality sushi, nightlife and
après opportunities.

Day 5-6: Storm Chase based out of Otaru

Over the next 3 ski days, your guides will select the best possible options to ride out of the Japow buffet of Sapporo Kokusai, Teine (site of the 1998 winter Olympics) and Kiroro with a possibility of exploring the utterly untracked and tiny hills of Tenguyama and Asari if conditions are favorable. Daily transportation time is on average 30-60 minutes one way.

Kiroro is quickly getting on the world map as the home of the worlds most consistent and high quality powder while Sapporo Kokusai also has great runs with a lot of cool terrain.

Day 7: Final day of skiing then CTS airport drop off

On day 7, the group snags one last day of skiing before heading to CTS airport for the drop-off. With all the logistics to be done, the ski day ends slightly early, between 1:00 - 2:00pm.

Drop off is at CTS Airport at 5:00pm. This means that you should not book any domestic flights that depart before 6:00pm and should not book any international flights that depart before 6:30pm.
